The baroque music ensemble La Fiocco presents “Cantate e Canzonetti”

La Fiocco, the Bucks County-based baroque music ensemble, concludes its post-pandemic comeback 2021-2022 season with “Cantate e Canzonetti”, marking the return of guest soprano Laura Heimes.

The program features German and Italian instrumental and virtuoso vocal music from the 17th and 18th centuries, including works by popular composers Antonio Vivaldi, Georg Philipp Telemann and Alessandro Scarlatti, but also lesser-known composers Andreas Uswalt, Andreas Hammerschmidt, Dieterich Buxtehude , Johann Rosenmuller , Philipp Heinrich Erlebach, Benedetto Marcello and Attilio Ariosti.

The musicians playing on period instruments are Claire Smith Bermingham and Nadir Aslam, baroque violins, Donna Fournier, viola da gamba and baroque cello, Deborah Fox, theorbo and baroque guitar, Benjamin T. Berman, harpsichord, and artistic director Lewis R Baratz, recorder and harpsichord.






“We are very excited about this program of beautiful instrumental pieces and impressive and magnificent vocal cantatas and canzonettas,” said Baratz, who also conducts the Lafayette College Chamber Orchestra. “We are especially delighted to welcome back Laura Heimes, who is in demand nationwide and a big favorite at La Fiocco.”

Performances will be at Christ Congregation, 50 Walnut Lane, Princeton, NJ, at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 4, and Trinity Episcopal Church, 6587 Upper York Road, Solebury, at 3 p.m. on Sunday, June 5. Tickets are $25. general admission, $10 students, free for children under 12, and are available at the door (cash or check) and online by credit card at lafiocco.org. Masks and proof of vaccination required.
