The Lenape Chamber Ensemble’s Summer Gala Concerts return to Doylestown on Saturdays 9, 16 and 23 July.
As usual, the music will be enhanced by the excellent acoustics of the Delaware Valley University Life Sciences Auditorium, 700 E. Butler Ave., Doylestown, where Ensemble concerts are now traditionally held. .
This three-week festival of chamber music programs, each beginning at 8 p.m., will feature several musicians well known to Bucks County audiences, as well as guest artists.
Back on stage on July 9, violinist Cyrus Beroukhim, concertmaster of the American Symphony and associate principal viola of the New York City Ballet; Alberto Parrini, principal cellist of the Northeastern Pennsylvania Philharmonic and regular performer with the New York Philharmonic and the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; Alan R Kay, clarinetist of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra; and Marcantonio Barone, renowned artist and performer of Steinway with major orchestras on four continents.
They will be joined by new faces, including American Symphony Orchestra violinist Robert Zubrycki; and Caeli Smith, violist of the Orpheus and Verbier Chamber orchestras.
The July 9 concert opens with Haydn’s ‘String Quartet in D major, Opus 76 No. 5’, written in 1797. A dramatically contrasting work, the ‘Cello Sonata No. 2 in G minor, Op. 117” written by Gabriel Faure in 1921, follows. The final selection of the program, the “Quintet for clarinet and strings, Op.115”, was written in 1891 by Johannes Brahms.
The July 16 concert will feature Franz Schubert’s ‘String Quartet No. 7’, George Crumb’s ‘Four Nocturnes for Violin and Piano’ and Robert Schumann’s ‘Piano Quartet in E-flat Major’.
On July 23, Mozart’s “Oboe Quartet in F Major” will feature distinguished oboist Richard Woodhams, as well as Frank Bridge’s “Fantasy for Piano Quartet” and Nikolai Rimsky’s “String Sextet in A Major” -Korsakov.
