Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble Announces 2022 Festival, “Finding Home”

Dell’Arte Opera Ensemble has announced its 2022 festival.

The theme of the festival will be “Finding Home,” which artistic director Chris Fecteau notes as a particular theme of the three operas the company is about to present.

The first is “Pelléas et Mélisande”. Chuck Hudson conducts and Eldred Marshall will perform the keyboard score.

Performance dates: August 6 – 28, 2022

The next stop will be “Il Ritorno d’Ulisse in Patria”. Caitlyn Koester conducts a period orchestra and Jessica Harika conducts.

Performance dates: August 13 – 27, 2022

The season will be closed with the professional premiere of “Juana” by Carla Lucero and Alicia Gaspar de Alba. Alfonso J. Piacentini conducts while Rod Gomez conducts.

Performance dates: August 21 – 27, 2022

“Each protagonist, Ulisse, Mélisande and Juana, seeks refuge among strangers and
the freedom to fully live one’s own life. It is particularly exciting to present the premiere of “Juana”, a Spanish-language opera that celebrates the life of Sor Juana Ines de la Cruz. Juana was a Mexican nun famous for her intellect, poetry and art. She defied the Inquisition to defend women’s rights to education and equality. LatinX audiences will find in her a familiar heroine depicted on the Mexican 100 peso bill,” Fecteau said in an official press release.

The season will also include a number of recitals.
