Boston’s Silkroad Ensemble announces tour

The Silk road set present “Phoenix rising» with their artistic director and GRAMMY Award-winning musician and singer Rhiannon Giddenson a multi-city tour of the United States East Coast July 16-30, 2022.

Succeeding Yo-Yo Ma in the role, Giddens was appointed artistic director of the set in July 2020 and this season marks Silkroad Ensemble’s first tour with her at the helm.

“Phoenix Rising” is a combination of past and new works – members of Silkroad and Giddens will premiere works encapsulating their collective experience during the pandemic.

These pieces include three new artist commissions from Silkroad Sandeep Das, Maeva Gilchristand Kaoru Watanabe. The program also includes new arrangements by Giddens, Colin Jacobson, Edouard Perezand Mazz Swift.

The ensemble will perform in New York, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, New Jersey, Virginia and Massachusetts. For more information and to attend the concerts, click here.

Silk Road Ensemble was founded by cellist Yo-Yo Ma in 1998. The group’s name is inspired by the historic Silk Road, an ancient trade route linking the West with the Middle East and Asia, and recognizes it as a model of cultural collaboration.

Over the years, Yo-Yo Ma has brought together artists from regions once connected by the Silk Road and created a traveling ensemble made up of the best musicians from around the world. educational programs; and social enterprise — connecting diverse cultures through the arts.
