UK Percussion Ensemble presents its spring concert on April 10

LEXINGTON, Kentucky (April 4, 2022) — The University of Kentucky Percussion Ensemble, under the direction of James Campbell, will perform its Spring Concert at 1 p.m. on Sunday, April 10 in the Recital Hall of the Singletary Center for the Arts.

The concert will feature Paul Deatherage as the drum soloist for Jamie Whitmarsh’s “Concerto for Drumset”. freelance drummer and currently holds the drum chair for the DiMartino/Osland Jazz Orchestra, the Osland/Dailey Jazztet, the Raleigh Dailey Trio, the Walnut Street Ramblers and the Ross Whitaker Trio.

The concert also includes recent works by Alexis Lamb, Katahj Copley, Eric Sammutt and a classic 1972 work, “A Whispering…” by William Duckworth.

The concert is free and open to the public.

Under the direction of James Campbell, the UK Percussion Ensemble has won the prestigious Percussive Arts Society Collegiate Percussion Ensemble Contest five times. They have also performed at several international conventions of the Percussive Arts Society, the Lotus World Music and Arts Festival, the Bands of America Percussion Ensemble Festival and alongside international guest artists such as Robin Engelman, Glenn Kotche, Steve Houghton, John Bergamo, Michael Burritt, Bob Becker, William Cahn, Michael Spiro, Chalo Eduardo, Ney Rosauro, Liam Teague, Dick Schory, Anders Åstrand, Richie Garcia, Dave Samuels, Danny Gottlieb, Glenn Velez, Emil Richards, Joe Porcaro, Jerry Steinholtz , David Johnson, Rich Holly, Dean Gronemeier, Fred Sanford, Thomas Burritt, John Parks, JB Smith, N. Scott Robinson, Andy Harnsberger and many more.

UK Percussion Ensemble is one of many ensembles housed at the School of Music in British College of Fine Arts.
