Accent makes its Canadian debut with the SSO on Saturday

Andrew Kesler and Danny Fong, two artists from Saskatoon, will make their Canadian debut on Saturday night at TCU Place alongside the Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra.

Both Kesler and Fong are part of vocal sextet group Accent. Fong says their music is different from that of more traditional acapella groups.

“Accent has a very unique sound, when you think of traditional acapella music you usually have a three part harmony and then you add a boxer beat and a low base note to make the sound fuller. But the harmony at Accent’s six voices are mostly six different notes all the time, which creates dense, jazz-influenced strings.

Accent was scheduled to perform in Saskatoon in March 2020, although the pandemic brought that show to an abrupt halt.

Fong says it will be good to play in front of his hometown crowd.

“We’ve been to all of our other members’ hometowns and stayed with their families, got to know them all and having never been to Canada, not only has my family never seen or met the band or just people very close to me, people I really like, they haven’t seen me play and neither have my friends. It’s crazy that we’ve been a band for 10 years and we’ve never been able to play for people we know.

Showtime is at 7:30 a.m. and tickets can be purchased by clicking the link below.
